About San Martín de los Andes

Founded on February 4, 1898, San Martin de los Andes, a typical mountain village with charming architecture, has more than 45,000 inhabitants and is located on the eastern headwaters of Lacar Lake, south of the province of Neuquén.
Since its beginnings, San Martín de los Andes main economic activities were trade and lumber-related businesses. From the creation of Lanin National Park in 1937, with administrative headquarters in San Martín, timber harvesting for commercial purposes started to decrease, giving way to tourism, which is now the city’s main economic resource.

Surrounded by vast forests and deep glacial lakes, San Martin de los Andes is the head of the famous 7 lakes circuit, it is part of the world-famous Route 40 and is the home to one of the major ski resorts in Patagonia Argentina, Cerro Chapelco. These features make it the major tourist center in the province of Neuquén.
Likewise, the beautiful San Martin is the gateway to a host of recreational activities, both for adventure tourism and conventional tours, providing options for all ages. Rafting, Kayaking, Golf, Hiking, Mountain Bike, Canopy, Horseback Riding, lake tours through lakes Lacar and Nonthue are just a few of the options you have at hand when taking a break from your fly fishing program.

Awesome days in Argentina
Awesome four days in Argentina Esteban and his team did a great job in all aspects of our trip. He arrived on time and his drivers were careful and got us to some great fishing spots. He was professional in all aspects of the trip and very patient in relating to our small group. He knew the rivers and the best spots for fishing and delivered a fun and entertaining couple of days. Most importantly you could feel that he really cared about the experience for his clients and wanted them to have the best that Argentina has to offer. I can't recommend him highly enough. Book him for Patagonia fishing.

Great fishing, excellent guiding....terrific value for a very fair price!
Two of us fished hard for six days with Esteban Urban, the owner/operator of Southern Loops, in late January of 2019. Esteban picks his support team carefully -- drivers, hotel choices, etc. This matters, especially after a long float to some remote pickup site. His standards are high, focused very much on the fishing experience. HIs English is excellent, and he's a patient Instructor, if instruction is desired along the floats and wades. Long days of fishing, again if desired (we did!), and Esteban has the endurance and enthusiasm to please. Esteban chases the best fishing, and best conditions (wind can be a factor in Patagonia, so flexibility in put-in choices matter). With compliments to his wife, who packs the hefty lunch basket daily, stream-side lunches are hearty and welcome -- sometimes meats cooked over an open fire. We added one "camping" outing, an overnight on the river, making a two-day adventure. Don't skip this option, as you'll remember it forever! Book your days directly with Esteban, as no need for any middleman on this one. He's honest, fair, and reliable.
